The Project STAND Healthy Student Operated Food Pantry located at MSCS VEL Center at 3237 Knight Road the 38118 Parkway Village Community. SchoolSeed partners with Project STAND and the Memphis Mid-South Food Bank to combat food insecurities found in this underserved 38118 zip code in Memphis, Tennessee. The poverty rate in Memphis for school-age children is more than twice the national rate according to ACS estimates (41.3%, compared to 16.2% nationally). Low-income children in 38118 are concentrated in several public schools in the neighborhood. Over 98% of students in these schools are low-income (Adjusted Low Income Rate, Title I School Eligibility, 2020-2021), with over three-quarters of all students receiving TANF or other government benefits. This is a direct correlation to poverty and lack of resources in this community.
This new Food Pantry is an amazing opportunity for families to have available resources at no cost. SchoolSeed is so proud to partner with MSCS's Project STAND to service families! All donations will be used to support the pantry with the purchase of food and supplies for the weekly opening!
