It truly has been a process over the last 5 years to even get to this point to begin the manifestation process of the community seeing dirt turning at Whitehaven High School. SchoolSeed Foundation serves as the fiduciary of the Whitehaven High STEM building capital campaign. That campaign officially came to a close last week with a total of $7.5 million pledged to support this wonderful game changing project. SchoolSeed, working with the capital campaign and building project committee, led by Mr. Richard Myers, is in the process of collecting from donors who have pledged their financial commitment to this project for our kids in that community.

The capital campaign lead person, Mr. Myers, has been working with the MSCS superintendent and her team to button down specifics through their processes and procedures over the last few months including solidifying naming rights of the building in which the School Board approved earlier this year. The school system has been an informed and valuable partner in this effort. The goal is for groundbreaking on the facility to occur in December now that the capital campaign has officially closed.

The STEM capital campaign committee has also been directly working with the Superintendent and her team to button down details around new state regulations regarding the new construction of educational buildings to ensure compliance with state regulatory agencies which added an additional $1 million cost to the building price tag.

With God all things are possible. Despite every possible challenge that came up against this fundraising effort including the pandemic, our kids will win. Our students in Whitehaven will get a valuable asset that will be a game changer for them. For me personally, this has always been about equity and access as our kids will be able to enter college and go into college level labs on the same level with kids from private schools.

We will continue to keep you updated. Thank you for supporting this effort. It has truly been a collaboration of private and public partnerships at every level.

Update on Whitehaven High School STEM Building Project

We are so appreciative of the your support of the Whitehaven High School STEM Building Project. We surpassed our original fundraising goal of $6,250,000. To date, we have raised $7,000,000 surpassing our original cost estimate set by our contractor, Montgomery Martin, in 2019. Unfortunately, there is a comp!ication.

Historically unprecedented inflation and a specific state building regulatory change increased our cost to $9,300,000. We are confident the State will provide a $1,000,000 grant for the 'storm shelter" we now need to include due to the regulatory change. That leaves us $1,300,000 to $1,500,000 short in our effort.

We need to build these labs now for Whitehaven's college-bound children. We will therefore conclude our capital campaign on June 30, 2023. We will start the construction effort in July.

You have been generous with us. We share a vision of connecting capital with solutions that makes our community thrive. We are so close to succeeding in our effort. If there is anything else you can give to help us close the funding gap, it would be wonderful.

We are excited to share with you all that SchoolSeed Foundation is in receipt of a $2 million lead gift to support the construction of a STEM building at Whitehaven High School. The lead gift will comprise of a $500,000 contribution followed by a matching gift of $1.5 million. In other words, when you donate through our online platform... for every dollar you give, the donor will match it up to $1.5 million. For those of you who have given, your donation just doubled!!!! Please share this with everyone you know. Our goal is to raise $500,000 through this platform which means that will be a total of $1 million because of the match.
