The program supports a scholarship opportunity to be awarded to a promising young scholar attending LeMoyne-Owen College. This scholarship bearing the name of Dr. Carol R. Johnson-Dean celebrates the legacy of her passion and commitment to service in education for the greater Memphis community. Johnson-Dean, who has worked as a teacher, principal, and a school system superintendent in Memphis, Boston and Minneapolis as also served as a Regional Executive Director at New Leaders, the national nonprofit that develops and trains school leaders ranging from teachers to superintendents. She began serving as the LeMoyne-Owen College’s interim president on August 26, 2019. As a graduate of an HBCU, namely Fisk University in Nashville, TN, she stands as a testament of what’s possible for our young students when we believe in them and support them in ways that advance their hopes and dreams. Her exemplary leadership and emphasis on relationships continues to stand as a model of service for those fortunate to partner with her in pursuit of educational excellence.
