Whitehaven Empowerment Expo 2018

Whitehaven High school alumni, business and community leaders will come together to expose nearly 2,000 Whitehaven students to a variety of personal and professional development topics during the 2nd annual Whitehaven Empowerment Expo (#WEZExpo). The Expo was birthed in 2016 in support of alignment in the new Whitehaven Empowerment Zone initiative. Over 100+ Whitehaven alumni traveled from all over this country and participated in the Expo which was designed to enlighten, empower and encourage the students of Whitehaven to become productive contributors and communicators beyond the walls of Whitehaven. Whether immediately entering the workforce, enrolling in college, or selecting a skilled trade, the Expo aims to bring the Whitehaven High School mission and vision to life and ensure Whitehaven students are well prepared for their next milestone. The goals of the 2017 Whitehaven Empowerment Expo are as follows:

  1. Double/Triple alumni participation for increased impact and exposure to career fields and life skills for Whitehaven students.

  2. Provide sustainable resources and experiences to Whitehaven High School students.

  3. Provide scholarships to deserving Whitehaven students to attend summer enrichment programs at major colleges/universities.

  4. Secure an influential celebrity motivational speaker for the event who is relatable to the students to increase engagement and excitement.

  5. Support Whitehaven's Capital Campaign for Campus Improvements

In early 2016, it was decided to make this Expo event a part of the Whitehaven High School Homecoming Week activities which is a huge event in the Whitehaven Community and brings back alumni from years past to participate in the homecoming week festivities. Whitehaven Alumni and community leaders will come together and aim to make the Empowerment Expo impactful and meaningful for students, giving them information and resources to help better prepare them for life after high school.

"Right now it is up to us, former graduates and alumni of Whitehaven and community members to come together to galvanize all of our talents to help our young people make smart decisions so they can be better prepared for life." --- Dr. Vincent Hunter, Whitehaven High School Principal.
